Job: Commercial Vehicle Installation Technician

Contract: Permanent

Based: Ashford

Hours: 40 hours Monday - Friday

Salary: Dependent on skills and experience

We have an exciting opportunity for an Electrical/Mechanical Technician based at our Ashford depot. Working within the Specialist Engineering Department, the successful candidate will be skilled in both Mechanical & Electrical Engineering to carry out upgrades, modifications and accessory installs to commercial vehicles.

Key responsibilities include: -

  • Carry out a range of mechanical and electrical accessory installations effectively and within required timeframes
  • Test vehicles and diagnose faults as requested.
  • Observe, recognise and report on vehicle or component defects.
  • Interpret and implement technical service instruction data.
  • Indent for replacement parts, ensuring proper identification and handling.
  • Carry out road test when required/requested.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant ISO and Quality Standards
  • Carry out pre delivery inspections

Essential Qualities include:-

  • Apprenticeship / Other training in a Mechanical and or Electrical discipline
  • Minimum GCSE Grade C/4 (or equivalent) in English and Maths
  • Good understanding of:
    • Electrical circuits and components
    • PQRs and Standards
    • Material knowledge and limitations
  • Good understanding of, and ability to read technical drawings and electrical diagrams
  • Diagnostic and design skills
  • Good overall process technique and knowledge
  • Good mechanical & electrical knowledge
  • Experience of setting up safe systems of work
  • Ability to work well under pressure within required timeframes
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to meet required targets and objectives
  • Team player
  • Ability to use own initiative
  • Problem solving skills
  • Computer literate
  • Driving licence

Desirable Qualities include:-

  • Knowledge of camera and side scan installations
  • Previous experience in mechanics (preferably heavy vehicle)
  • HGV Driving Licence
  • Power take-off (PTO) Knowledge
